FAQ: Answers

Q1. Can I protect my Microsoft Word and Excel documents?
A1. TrusCont Protection Toolkit is not currently able to protect Microsoft Word or Excel documents (.doc and .xls file extensions respectively).

The solution to this would be to export your Word and Excel documents to a format such as PDF or HTML. This method will maintain your document's presentation, provide effective protection and conserve file compatibility.

Q2. Can I protect my picture and photos?
A2. TrusCont can protect the a wide range of picture and photo formats, this includes;
  • JPG
  • GIF
  • PNG
  • DjVu
These files then would only be viewable in an internet browser where they cannot be edited or copied.

Q3. Where can I find a full list of compatible file types?
A3. You will be able to protect the following files.
  • EXE - Software Executable Files
  • PDF - Adobe Portable Document Format
  • SWF - Adobe Flash File Format
  • HTM and HTML - Web Pages Files
  • JPG, GIF, PNG and DjVu - Pictures and Photos Files
  • MP3, WMA, WAV and OGC - Audio File Formats
  • AVI, MPG, WMV and ASF - Video File Formats

And this file list is continually expanding. Currently in BETA testing is;
  • FLV - Adobe Flash File Format

Q4. Can I include file types which are not compatible with TrusCont on my media?
A4. Yes, there is no restriction to the type of files you store on your chosen media. Only those file types which are compatible with TrusCont will have protection options, although you do not have to protect them all.

Q5. What is the difference between TrusCont Protected DVD-Rs & Secure Flash Drives?
A5. A TrusCont Protected DVD-R is a DVD recordable format and has a storage capacity of 4.7GB. This type of media can be read in by any system with a standard DVD drive. Once the data has been written to a DVD-R, it can not be changed.

A TrusCont Secure Flash Drive ranges in capacity from 1GB to 8GB. This type of media can be read in by most modern day computers with a USB port. Once the data has been written to a USB drive you are still able to delete, amend and add to the contents.

There is no difference in level of protection or file compatibility for the Protected DVD-R and Secure Flash Drives.

Q6. Do I need a licence in order to create a protected project?
A6. The TrusCont Protected DVD-Rs do require a licence in order to create a protected project. All of our DVD-Rs include the cost of this licence and will be added to your account on purchase. This licence will need to be validated before you can write to the DVD-R, so therefore an active internet connection is required on your system. Each licence can only be used once and will be automatically decremented from your account.

The TrusCont Secure Flash Drives also requires a licence. This licence is included in the cost and preloaded on to your USB Memory stick before being dispatched.

An additional optional charge may be incurred to be able to utillise the Time Limit protection feature.

Q7. What is the "Time Limit" protection feature?
A7. Using this feature you will be able to set a date expiration of when a program or document files can no longer be opened and displaying a customised error message. This feature is perfect for releasing trial software or promotional products.

Q8. How many licences do I need to protect my files?
A8. licences are applied to individual DVD-R discs and not files. As long as you can fit all your required files onto 1 TrusCont Protected DVD-R, you can protect as many or as few files using just 1 licence.

The TrusCont Secure Flash Drives already have the licences applied to the USB Memory Stick. With this single licence you will be able to create and re-create protected projects as many times as you like.

Q9. How many files can I get on 1 TrusCont Protected DVD-R?
A9. Just like any other DVD the number of files you can fit onto 1 Protected DVD-R is dependant upon the individual file sizes. A standard DVD is 4.7GB but due to the protection element of TrusCont this is very slightly reduced.

Q10. Do I need any software to create a protected project?
A10. The software to create TrusCont Protected DVD-Rs and Secure Flash Drives is completely free and easy to use. You can find these available in our Downloads section along with the User Manuals.

During the burning process of the Protected DVD-Rs, you are required to have a Nero 7 or later on your system. Please contact us for further advice and pricing on this product.

No additional software is required to create a TrusCont Secure Flash Drive.

Q11. Do I need any software to view my protected data?
A11. No specialised software is required to view your protected data and compatibility will remain unaffected.

Q12. Can I get my data copied and protected in large quantities?
A12. Multi Media Replication is a digital copying specialist providing duplication and replication from small to large quantities. We can also arrange and design additions such as customised print on your DVD, customised packaging and even distribution should you require. Please contact us to discuss your requirements further.

Q13. Where can I get the latest TrusCont Toolkit software?
